What to Expect at Unity Spiritual Community of Central Oregon

Thinking about visiting Unity Central Oregon for the first time?

If you've been quietly searching for a spiritual community in Central Oregon but feel a little uneasy about walking into anything that calls itself a "church," this guide is for you.

Here is an honest, detailed picture of what a Sunday with us is actually like, so you can arrive knowing exactly what to expect.

Open Source Spirituality. No Dogma Required.

Unity is a New Thought spiritual community.

We draw wisdom from many traditions, we honor your own inner authority, and we ask you to take nothing on blind faith.

We're a spiritual home for people who consider themselves spiritual but not religious, for seekers and questioners, and for anyone who misses the connection a community can offer but doesn't miss the rules.

Wherever you are on your path, you belong here.

Before the Service: Arriving and Parking

We gather on Sunday mornings at 10:00 at 63645 Scenic Drive in Bend. Parking is free and on-site.

Come a few minutes early if you'd like time to get a cup of coffee and settle in.

A greeter will welcome you, but no one will single you out, ask you to stand, or put you on the spot. You can be as visible or as low-key as you wish.

What Should I Wear?

Whatever feels comfortable. There is no dress code. You'll see people in jeans, in trail clothes on their way to the mountains, and in their Sunday best. Central Oregon is a come-as-you-are kind of place, and so are we.

During the Service: What Actually Happens

A typical Sunday lasts about an hour.

There's uplifting music, a few minutes of guided meditation, and a message that connects timeless spiritual principles to everyday life: relationships, work, fear, change, and meaning.

You won't hear fire and brimstone, and you won't be told you're broken or sinful. Our starting point is the opposite: you are already whole, already good, and a unique expression of the divine.

Participate as much or as little as you like. Sing along or simply listen. Close your eyes during meditation or just breathe. There's no pressure and no performance.

What About My Kids?

Families are welcome.

If you'd like to know what's available for children on a given Sunday, reach out before you visit and we'll walk you through the options so you can plan with confidence.

Can't Make It In Person?

We livestream our Sunday service, so you can join from anywhere in Central Oregon, whether you're in Redmond, Sisters, Sunriver, La Pine, or at home in Bend.

Watching online first is a perfectly good way to get comfortable before visiting in person.

After the Service: Coffee and Connection

Many people linger afterward for coffee and conversation.

This is where community happens.

If making friends in Bend has felt hard, know that you're not alone; many of our members arrived as newcomers to Central Oregon and found their people here.

There's no obligation to stay, but the door is open if you'd like to.

Will Anyone Pressure Me to Join or Donate?

No. We serve first and invite second. Visit as many times as you like with zero expectation. We trust that if Unity is right for you, you'll feel it.

What You Won't Find Here

It can be just as helpful to know what's absent.

You won't be asked to recite a creed you don't believe. You won't hear that some people are saved and others aren't.

You won't be guilted about money, told that doubt is dangerous, or pressed to "commit" before you're ready.

Plenty of people arrive carrying old wounds from religious settings, and part of our job is simply to be a place where those wounds can rest.

Common Questions From First-Time Visitors

Do I have to believe in God to come?

No.

People arrive with every imaginable relationship to the word "God," from devout to deeply skeptical.

We use many names for the sacred, Spirit, Source, Presence, Life, and you're free to translate into whatever language fits you, or to simply sit with the questions.

Is Unity a religion or a cult?

Unity is part of the New Thought tradition, a well-established spiritual movement more than a century old.

The honest test of a healthy community is whether you're free to leave, free to question, and free to think for yourself.

By that measure, you'll find Unity refreshingly open.

Come, observe, and judge for yourself; no one will chase you for a decision.

How long is the service, really?

We step in to a vortex where time and space cease to exist. So it is very hard to put a specific number on how long our service last. Just kidding, last about an hour.

If you stay for coffee afterward, give yourself another twenty or thirty minutes, but there's no obligation.

Will I have to talk or introduce myself?

Only if you want to.

You can come, take it all in, and leave without saying a word to anyone but the greeter at the door.

A Few Practical Notes

Arrive a little early if you'd like the easiest parking and a quiet moment to settle.

Restrooms are easy to find, and someone at the welcome area can point you to anything you need.

If you have accessibility questions or want to know about a specific Sunday's topic before you come, reach out ahead of time and we'll gladly help you plan.

Come Find Out for Yourself

The simplest way to know whether Unity is your spiritual home is to experience a Sunday, in person or on the livestream. Hear a talk, feel the room, stay for coffee. Plan your visit and join us this Sunday at 10:00.

Want to go deeper before you come? Explore affirmative prayer, our signature practice, or what it means to be spiritual but not religious. And if you already sense you'd like to belong somewhere that gives back, see how you can get involved.
